In March 1943 he returned to the UK, and in August he was Struck off Strength of No.9 Commando and posted to 163 OCTU for his Commission training. On the 7th January 1944 he was Commissioned as a 2nd Lieut. with the 4th Bn. East Lancashire Regt. At the time of his relief from active military service in May 1946 he held the rank of Captain in the South Lancashire Regiment.
Photo, and information from his Service Record, courtesy of his son Chris Foster who adds " Like many of his generation, he said little of his war service, other than happy recollections of training at Achnacarry, postings to Gibraltar , Kirkcudbright and some mention of a cross channel raid. He died suddenly in 1978."
