Lance Sergeant Derrick Dighton, 4 Troop, was wounded on 24 January 1945 . His Commando were engaged in operations at Maasbracht.
In 1946 Derrick John Dighton married Annie Margaret Champkin. He was by then an Essex Police Constable having served 4 years in No.3 Commando. Retiring in 1982, rank of Chief Superintendent, his police service included postings at Romford, Bishops Stortford, Harwich, Kelvedon, Dunmow, Braintree, Chelmsford, and Colchester. His father Sidney had been a Police Officer in the Huntingdonshire County Police.
I believe that this Troopers’ medals include a Police Long Service Medal so he may have been one of the Wartime Police entries who returned to that Job on demobilisation, it is the right hand medal as the photo is looked at.
