Then onto Crete to assist with evacuations where he was injured. Later in life, aged 46, he got bone cancer possibly from shrapnel still in his spine. He passed away 10 years later, aged 56, in Wellington, New Zealand. He was awarded the Africa Star, War Medal 1939-1945, and the 1939-1945 Star." .
