Eric Harper No. 7 Cdo and others whilst POW in Stalag XV111A
1880061 Stanley Eric Harper (he was known as Eric) is back row 2nd from the right. He was originally attached from the Royal Engineers to No.4 Commando in 1940. For a few months towards the end of 1940 No.4 Cdo was absorbed into the 3rd Special Service Bn. joining No.7 Commando. A few months later the SS Battalions were broken up back into the respective Commandos. In January 1941 Eric, along with others from No.4 Cdo., answered the call for volunteers to join No.7 Commando who were due to embark for action in the Middle East. He was captured on Crete and was a POW in Stalag XV111A. In 1941 he was working in a quarry (A11897/L). In 1943 he was working on a farm."
Albeit some may have, it is not confirmed that anyone in this image, other than Eric Harper, served in a Commando.
