Donna adds the following information:
L/Sgt William Taylor born:13.02.1917
Army number was: 4130202 .
The Cheshire Regiment and No.3 Commando.
He was awarded: 1939-45 Star :Africa Star; Italy Star; and has an 8th Army bar which sits across one of his medals. Also a further two medals but they do not indicate which campaign. I have a telegram dated 14th July 1943 which reports him as missing (he was in fact prisoner of war at that time in Sicily). At that time his home address was Atherton Lancashire. I do know that he was a boxer whilst with the Commandos' and I have a picture of him at that time. I have found a boxing programme from Sidney Hall Weymouth - 17th December 1942. The contest was between No3 & No4 Commando and my Dads name is listed under No3 Commando (Blue in the contest)."
n.b. The above mentioned Boxing programme is shown in the Nominal Rolls/Lists Album on Page 2 of the Main Gallery Home Page
