Private Thomas McCormack, No.2 Commando, died of wounds 11/4/42 St Nazaire

Thomas McCormack was born on the 24th Nov.1916 in Wigan. Prior to joining "Y" Company, Liverpool Scottish Bn. QOCH TA, he was a salesman. His TA were mobilised on 1st Sep.1939. On 23/4/40 after volunteering for special service he was posted No.4 Ind. Coy. Took part in Operation Avonmouth with Scissors Force in Norway returning to the UK on 1st June 1940. In October he transferred to B Coy. No.1 SS Bn., then in Feb 1941 he transferred to No.2 Commando - 5 ( Liverpool Scottish) Troop. On 26th Mar.1942 he sailed aboard HMS Campbeltown to St Nazaire on Operation Chariot. He was part of Capt. Roy's Assault Team. During the raid Tom was fatally wounded. He was taken prisoner but died of his wounds in a German Naval Hospital. (details from the Liverpool Scottish Regimental Museum)
