No.10 (IA) Commando 2 troop. On the 1st December 1944 he was promoted to the rank of temporary Sergeant Major during the period he was attached to the Staff of the Dutch Interior Forces. The date on the photo is 5 May 1945. This was the day on which the Germans officially surrendered in Holland and that day later became Liberation Day.
