At Kangaw Hill (Map ref 515414 sheet Myebon 1/25,000)on 23rd January 1945 Fusilier Irving was in charge of the troop wireless set. At midnight he had multiple grenade wounds of the back inflicted by an enemy grenade. Refusing treatment and evacuation he maintained communications all night. His set was hit three times.
