19/12/11 Update from Pete R. This photo from the IWM replaces the poorer quality version we already had courtesy of Roy Halfpenny's grandaughter Debbie Smithers. Reproduced here under the terms of the IWM Non-Commercial Licence, the IWM have the description of the photo as "Men of No. 1 Commando in jovial mood at Hastings after returning from a raid on St Cecily Plage near Le Touquet on the French coast to seize Freya and Wurzburg radar equipment, 4 June 1942."

Hi I believe the chap at the front (with bandage on finger) is my Grandfather 'Roy' halfpenny (I have a copy of this picture amongst his belongings!!) If this is June 1942 then my GF was in UK at this time
