Fred Carrington mentions how he had left the billet for a church parade when the air raid occurred killing 3 (or 4) of those left inside.

See previous comments. Peter if you have a good photo of your father on his own, or any of his time in 46RM Commando, feel free to post them.

Jim Anderson
The marine on the left is my father Jim Anderson, he was from Upholland in Lancashire and joined as soon as he could, his biggest adventure and didn't want to miss it.
He was called swede because of his blonde hair and it got changed to Steve.
He passed in 2000, as with most veterans he didn't discuss the war with his family. It was only later in life he wanted to attend reunions but illness forbade this.

Just to be clear this photo is of E troop as the similarity to the previous picture detailed as
"Some of E Troop 43 RM Commando
On the South bank of River Reno, Commachio 1945. Photo courtesy of Jeff Gordon, son of Sgt. Jack Gordon 43 RM Cdo" shows, since the camp set up, tools ie pick axe lying upright on the floor and group of five men are all consistent in each photo.
