Joseph Pasquale
My husband is Joseph's 1st cousin: Joseph was the son of Joseph Pasquale (Snr) and Winifred (nee Tunney) of Liverpool. He was born in 1919, and married Jean Marion Lucille (nee Carter) in Lewes, Sussex in 1943. Joseph is commemorated on the family headstone in Ford Cemetery, Liverpool. The inscription on his headstone in Hermanville War Cemetery reads: "Sweet and treasured memory of my darling husband who gave his life on D-Day".

I have been trying to obtain information regarding my fathers involvement during the early stages of WW2 and the Normandy landings.
He is pictured in this photo on the bottom row Freddie Lister, (Fred Lister).
Could anyone give me information on how I could obtain his service number?
Thank you
His son John Lister.

I think number 1. on the 2nd row down may be my great uncle Cpl Thomas (Tommy) Cole R.A.M.C attached to 47 RM Cdo.

Hello Carol. I haven't looked at this website for a year unfortuneately but have just seen your post which I'm really excited about. I have for some time been trying to identify all the men in the photo and also to identify beyond doubt those men involved in Operation Basalt. I have alot of information you may want and am happy to share it with you.

Updates
1st row, 2nd from left is Harry 'Titch' Joyce.
2nd row, far left is Sgt. Kennedy.
3rd row, 4th from left is my great grandfather Leslie Thomas 'Tubby' Finnis.
On the reverse of the original photo was written: 'My sub-section, taken in De Mauw, Belgium'.
Also, I have a higher quality scan of this image if you'd like it.

I believe the person top row no 11 to be my father Wilfred William Gordon Greenwood PO/X 6874.
I have a photo of him as part of a athletics team photo which he told me was taken in Malta around this time. I have quite a few photos of his time in 40 commando. I know he served in Malaya, Singapore, Korea and Malta between the dates 1946 when he joined and about 1953 or '54.
I would love a better copy of this picture if possible?
My email is [email protected]
Thanks!

Cpl. W.F. Smith
Hello. On the third row (16. L/Cpl E. Smith) is actually Cpl William Francis Smith (PO/x107569), my grandfather.
He died in Southampton in 2008, but was fortunate enough to be reunited with Harry Sale in 2002 after I found Harry through a guy called Frank Darbyshire on a lost-comms website. He'd missed out on all the reunions for the past 58 years! He managed to attend one of the 46RM Commandos ceremonies in Rots during the mid-2000s, however.

Many photos of this period were taken by Zvi Zwet who was formerly in 51 ME Cdo and then No.2 Cdo. Zvi Zwet became No.2's semi official photographer, taking a number of very spectacular photos, until unfortunately losing both his legs on a Teller mine in April 1945 during the fighting at Lake Comacchio. There are photos of Zvi at reunions in our gallery.
