It certainly looks like my father. He went to Poona, was attached to McIlroy's 505th PIR Medical Detachment at Groesbeek and 47 RM at Dishoek, Walcheren where he was one of the 7 Dutch commandos wounded. After the war, he joined Unilever, spent 11 years in Trinidad and died in Bromley on 16 May 1971.

They appear to be Lewis guns which although being replaced by the Bren gun for most infantry use in World War 2 , they were still being used in World War II.

Dutch Troops Training In Stratford, Ontario.

Notice the label to the left on the train car that reads: Canadian National which was the Canadian National Railroad whose Shops were located on Downie Street in Stratford, Ontario during World War II.

This picture was taken in Stratford, Ontario, Canada in 1942.
Dutch volunteers who were living abroad when Holland was invaded by the NAZIS, were told to report to Canada for training to liberate Holland. They were stationed in a building which was the former McLagan Furniture Factory located on 93 Trinity Street in Stratford, Ontario which was transformed into the Princess Juliana Barracks. The Dutch troops were trained here from January 1941 until Autumn 1942 when many left for England to be assigned to different military units.

Seen here are Dutch trainees. At the same time Belgian trainees were trained at the CBTC in severe wintry conditions (7.12.1944- 12.01.1945).

My mother just told me the person over the left shoulder of the man front and centre (minus beret) is Pierre de Haas who was a life long friend of my Grandfather Johannes Jansen (also pictured)
