E Troop No 12 Commando
Hi Graham, My father in law is Jim or Jimmy Flint. His sons John & Ken are certain that the chap 1st in the front row on the left hand side is their Dad. Someone has their arm around his neck. Jim was also part of Operation Basalt (Sark). He didn't talk much about his life in the military, mainly spoke about the friendships and funny things that occurred. Unfortunately Jim passed away in 2000 aged 84. I am researching Jims Defence career.

Troop Sergeant Major
The Troop Sergeant Major on the front seated row sitting to the right of Capt Barker is my paternal Grandfather, Alan Michell (not Mitchell). He in 1983 died shortly before I was born. We have a copy of this same photo in the limited effects of his from the war, plus some others from 46 Royal Marine Commando which I will try to add.
Major EGM Michell, Duke of Lancaster's Regiment

Unit query
Most, if not all, are not RM and several appear to be French? That coupled with the information in the CA newsletter on Scrivens being No 4 Commando, makes me question the unit designation of 4 SS Bde Signals. On checking the original post in the forum this is referred to as a troop in No 4 Commando. Title changed. Photo relocated.

I think this photo was taken first days of september 1944 or late August, in SAINT-MACLOU ( near River SEINE ).
We could see the church.
There is other photos with men of 1st commando Brigade there front of the chuch, in the gallery.
1st commando brigade stayed there, until their embarked in ARROMANCHES the 7th september.
