Hi Peter,
Agree as per the caption we think it is E Troop rather than F. We have an original photo (no date or anything else on the front) but from the album is
“E Troop 45 RMC 14-1-46 Linfold Camp Nr Horsham” They then embarked for the Far East on 31st January. My wife’s father was Cpl John Joseph O’Sullivan (though rank seemed to go down and up at times) - known to us as “Jack” but not sure what he was known as in the Marines. He joined the Marines in early 1943 (9th Battalion), then into 46 RMC when it was formed and served with them until injured on 2nd July 1944. Rejoined the unit when it was pulled back to England - and then went back to Europe in early 1945. We have recently obtained a copy of his service record, so can match dates for 46/45 RMC.
Hope this helps

Date query
Thank you Derek. It is actually 'E' troop the bottom line of the E being obscured. The photo came to us with the date thereon. Looking at the photo they are wearing ties. The introduction of collar and tie with battle dress for RM OR's did start at the end of 1944[RMRO 1673 and 1788,and RMRO 245 of 1945.] May is suggest you register and post a message with your query on our Forum and include the details of the RM Commando you identify.

45 RMC
How sure are you about the date. Wife’s father is 2nd row up just above the F leaning to the left. But he did not join 45 RMC until 46 RMC was disbanded in early 46.

Capt. Beddall identified. His son Richard adds “My father with Vicomte Arthur De Jonge who was the Commanding Officer of the Belgian french-speaking Commandos. My father spoke French and as a result was transferred to be with the French-speaking Belgians. He remained a lifelong friend of Vicomte de Jonge who I remember as being a most charming man.

Private Fred 'Rocky' Stock
My granddad 'Rocky' Stock is front row 5th from the left with the slightly darkened shirt. He was English from Plumstead, London and when called up in 1940 after basic training he was transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders, from there he joined the 11th Scottish Commando's before going on to join the 204 military mission to China. He sadly passed away in 2001.
