Charles Grills (centre), nickname Grills the Reformer, 9th Rm Bn., completed his Commando training with the new 46RM Commando at Achnacarry in November 1943, only to be seriously injured in later training the next month. He continued in RM service throught the war. His daughter Suzanne Nicholas adds, "After the war, dad met my mum and they married in 1946. They were together for 63 years and he adored her. Dad had a successful life working in the family business to start with and then after the death of his brother, he sold the business. He was also involved in local politics for a total of 37 years. He was Mayor of the town of Darwen in 1968 and a County Councillor for Lancashire for many years. They finally left Darwen in 2007 to come and live with me in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire but after mum died, it was just like a light went out of his life. He managed another 4 years with me but finally passed away in 2013. He was a wonderful man and I miss him such a lot."
George Davidson (left) was killed in France after D Day during the action at Rots and Le Hamel. See additional images of Mne Davidson within this album.
