Bill Stoneman 42 RM Commando. Photo and information from Pete Stoneman for Mrs Clemencia, Joe & Bill Stoneman - "Dad passed away on Thursday April 18th at 4pm. His wife, three sons and their three wives were with Bill when he passed away. Dad had suffered most recently from vascular dementia and several recent falls due to his diminished sense of balance had caused a small haemorrhage to his brain. During the last months, he did not enjoy good quality of life and his condition at that stage was progressive. We are relieved that he is now at rest. My Mum & brothers attended the RM reunions at Fort William several times. As a younger, protected & unexposed generation we felt entirely humbled by the kindness, character, calibre & above all modesty of Dads` comrades. We cherish the memories of those times and how blessed we have been to have had Dad in our lives. May I draw your attention to an internet link to the Bill Stoneman blog, it is a link to the book he wrote in the later years of his life. We would hope that Dads` book will be a valuable way of disseminating his work.

Also, as a final note when discussing donations for Dads funeral with my Mum we knew that we had to observe Dads` view that floral tributes were a waste of money. The obvious beneficiary would have been donations to an Alzheimer charity, but Mum decided to honour Dads memory by nominating The Great Ormonde Street Childrens Hospital.
