Letter to family of Mne Ronald Simmons advising he was missing
In 1940 CH/X2889 Mne. Ronald Simmons served on board HMS Southampton engaged in North Sea Patrols. In 1942 he volunteered for the first Royal Marine Commando unit to be formed which was at that time simply called the 'Royal Marine Commando'. He participated on the Dieppe raid 19 August 1942. He was reported missing in action but later found to have been captured and he spent the rest of the war as a prisoner at Stalag XI-A (also known as Stalag 341) in Germany. Shortly after his capture his commando unit was re designated as 40RM Commando.
