David Wilson Fletcher
Pte. David Wilson Fletcher, born 22 July 1926, volunteered for the Commandos and was posted to the Commando Basic Training Centre for his training in April 1945. After successfully completing his training he was sent to the Holding Operational Commando but within a few months the disbandment of the Army Commandos commenced.
In 1946 he was commissioned and served with 2nd Bn. 7th Gurkha Rifles attaining the rank of Captain before resigning his commission in 1950 to work as an assistant tea plantation manager in East Bengal.
David Wilson Fletcher was the author of "The Children of Kanchenjunga" which tells of his experiences in Tibet. He ran a tea plantation in Darjeeling in 1953 and wrote another book about his time there "Himalayan Tea Garden."
