'Charlie' Palmer
Islay Cyril Albert Palmer, known to all in 'F' troop No.4 Commando as 'Charlie' Palmer
Photo courtesy of Newell Fisher who adds" Charlie was originally in the Queen’s Own Royal West Kent Regiment, then in F Troop No.4 Commando. His full name is Islay Cyril Albert Palmer. His fellow Commandos refused to use his birth name and named him Charlie instead, which is the name he has used ever since. This photo was taken in Alexandria in 1945, after he had returned to his regiment after the Army Commandos were disbanded. I will be applying to join the CVA shortly as an associate, as will Charlie as a founding member. He was very pleased to be told this would be possible."[/i]
Charlie has spoken on video about his recollections of D Day [more....].
