Fusilier John Driver, No.3 Commando, was reported missing 14 July 1943 during operations at Agnone, Sicily, and the Bridge at Malati (3 Commando bridge), later confirmed prisoner of war. Repatriated to the UK 26 May 1945. Released Class W (T) Army Reserve 24 October 1945.
John Tueart Driver was a Preston Borough Police Constable (Pc 128) in 1939 residing Linnet Street, Preston. Constable Driver volunteered for the Commandos enlisting into the General Service Corps 23 July 1942 and immediately posted to the 2nd Police Intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. After completing the commando course he was administratively transferred to the registers of the Lancashire Fusiliers and posted to No.3 Commando. Post war he re-joined Preston Borough Police and retired after 25 years service, final rank Police Sergeant. Member of the Commando Association.
