Spr. Roy Ruston, RE and No.2 Commando MT section.
2 photos of, and information about, Roy Ruston (14318535) Royal Engineers and No.2 Commando courtesy of his brother Jim who adds the following information :
"My brother Roy was in HQ company in the MT section where he was a driver. His wife, who is still alive, has his medals but nothing more. With regard to his Green Beret I can tell you that when our grandfather died, who Roy was extremely fond of, as the coffin was being lowered into the earth Roy placed his Green Beret on top so it was buried with our Grandad. Whether the 2 Commando dagger badge was on it I don't remember but knowing Roy it probably was - he cared very little for material things - for him his family and friends were all he needed. Roy was a great piano player and somehow acquired an accordion in Italy which he brought back with him at the end of the war. His nickname was Smoky. He served right through the Italian campaign Sicily Italy and Vis. He also took part in the Albania raid where he was quite badly injured. At the end of the war he returned to his parent regiment the Royal Engineers and was posted to 3rd Airborne in Palestine. Roy died in 1994."
