Ron Crippin, then a Corporal in the HQ troop, took part in Operation Chariot, the raid at St Nazaire. He embarked on motor launch ML 447 and was evacuated back to the UK. Awarded the British Empire Medal (Military Division) in recognition of distinguished service during the raid. He had previously seen action with 2 Independent Company in May 1940 at Bodo, Norway, as part of Scissors Force.
