Harry Douglas Manns
No 12 Commando 'D' troop. Harry was also known by some as Henry. In 1945 he was serving in the BBC broadcasting unit in BAOR. He had worked for the BBC before the war. He broke his neck in Germany in December 1945 in a road accident in München Gladbach and was in hospital for 6 months, in Germany and in England. He was discharged from the Army to the Reserve list on the 2nd September 1946. Post war he married Joy Lawrence in 1948 and they later had two children, Jane and Harriet. They lived for some 20 years after the war in Wales, after moving from Battersea, running a retail business. They later moved to England finally settling in Haddenham. Harry died in 1995 on Remembrance Day, the 11th November.
