Hans adds " My father trained in Achnacarry Nov'44-Jan'45 after which he became a sniper. Before escaping through the lines to the UK my father's family called him Loek. When in the UK he changed it to John and that has remained until he died. Only his own family kept calling him Loek, the rest called him John. He passed away on March 18, 2014. I promised him 3 days before he died that I would plant a high quality plaque at the memorial in Spean Bridge and it should last over 100 years! He thought this was really cool and together we decided what text to put on the plaque. He was so weak he could only spell letter by letter but still knew his paybook number. The planting ceremony took place on 27th June 2014. The piper was Sandy Cameron, a 17 year old award winning piper. My wife and I left Spean Bridge with a very good feeling."
