Jack Bakker adds "Private Albertus de Jong went through Achnacarry from November 1944 till January 1945 and was part of what we call The First Reinforcement. They were recruited in the South of Holland when that was liberated in September/October 1944. The First Reinforcement consisted of 72 men. They joined No 2 Dutch troop and were put to the front at the Hollands Diep, a large waterway in the South of Holland. After the war finished they went to Germany, Recklinghausen to be precise, were they guarded a prisoner of war camp with top brass Germans behind the wire. During his training in Achnacarry he, together with another Dutchman, came fifth in the Sturgess Cup Competition."

who died 14 June 1945 when the jeep he was driving crashed into a ditch at Apeldoorn, a town in the centre of Holland.
Remembered with honour at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, Netherlands.
