Gunner George Horace Baker No.1 Commando kia 31/1/1945 Burma

Gunner George Baker, 5 Troop, died during the Battle of Hill 170, Kangaw, Burma. He was killed in action after killing two Japanese snipers and has no known grave.
Son of Horace Edward and Mary Ann Baker, of Kingston-on-Thames, Surrey. Older brother of Reginald and Peter Baker
George Horace Baker from Kingston on Thames, Surrey, joined the East Surrey Regiment TA in 1939. On 9 December 1939 he transferred to the Royal Artillery, 65th Searchlight Regiment. After this he was posted to the Faroe Islands. Gunner Baker volunteered for the Commandos in 1943. His 20 year old brother 14423409 Trooper Reginald Edward Baker, 3rd Royal Tank Regt., R.A.C. (not a commando) also died in the war.
