Major Douglas Sidders MC
Joined 2 Special Boat Section in April 1942 as a Lieutenant. After one year he became a Captain. He later went abroad to S.A.C.S.E.A. in command of 'B' Group Special Boat Section as a Major. [Source: 2SBS memorandum in our archive]

The following information provided by Jean Poirriez comes from G.B. COURTNEY : SBS in World War Two. Robert Hale, London, 1983 :
Royal Welch Fusiliers, N°2 SBS in April 1942. Lieutenant.
During Operation TORCH, sent to Gibraltar (November 1942).
From 3rd to 4th of August 1943, Operation FORFAR LOVE. Transported from Dover on M.G.B. 116, 2 canoes made a reconnaissance of the east pier of Dunkirk’s harbour.
In May 1944, N°2 SBS is divided in 3 Groups and sent to Ceylon. Major SIDDERS is in command of “B” Group.
In September 1944, opération SPRATT BAKER : destruction of a bridge, north of Sumatra (awarded the Military Cross).
End of 1944 and beginning of 1945 : several reconnaissance works on the Chindwin River crossings and the Irrawady River crossings (Burma).
