No.1 Special Service Detachment
No.1 Special Service Detachment British Military Mission 204 to China. My grandfather John (known as Jack) Mayle is 2nd back row, 2nd from left. He served with 8 Commando and No1 Special Service Detachment.
Update 3/12/2010 by Pete R. I was given a photocopy of this picture with names and other details on the reverse by The Isle of Arran Heritage Museum. This photocopy states " Taunngyi Southern Shan States, Burma 3/2/1942 British contingent of Mission 204 to China".
Names
Both the photocopy and the reverse are pictured alongside this photo. I have transferred the names from there to here although in row 2 the numbers do not match the number of men and therefore may not be in the right order as the photocopy is faded. A similar mismatch was found in row 4. Where known to be correct the men are numbered.
