Photos taken from the Order of Service at his funeral courtesy of Eric Buckmaster No.2 Cdo. Eric spoke at the funeral and here is a partial extract of what he said " Whenever we infantry troops went ashore with our rifles, tommy guns, or Bren guns, Charles and his men had to get ashore with 3" mortars, barrels, base plates and tripods, and Vickers machine guns and the bombs and ammunition they required. Once ashore, whether it was mountainous terrain, or a flat long distance to travel, Charles and his lads had to keep up the pace, stay with us, and provide the only support we could have. The Heavy Weapons Troop, under Charles Priest's leadership, were noted for their humour, wit, and high spirits. He must have encountered serious situations frequently, but he usually had a smile for you when you met him. And he showed real concern for every member of his troop. They protected our flanks, they gave us heavy covering fire when it was needed. And the mortars retaliated to protect us from heavy enemy attack ahead. To me, and I am sure to all my comrades in 2 Commando who knew him, Charles Priest provided a sense of dependable steadiness and reliability, and the assurance of support. And all of us were very glad he was there. To quote another of our former Comrades, Major Colin Eastaugh, the most vivid recollection of Charles Priest is his unfailing cheerfulness and unflappability. He was a staunch comrade and a good friend"

Post war Charles was twice elected Mayor of Bromley.
