Lt Cowieson, known as Alick Mor (Alick the Mighty), served in No 3 Commando 5 troop and on the staff at the CBTC. He was instrumental in the design of the Death Ride on the Commando course. He also assisted with the training of the first US Rangers at the CBTC.(Source: CA Newsletter 73 Sept.1981)
From Commando Association newsletter 74 of March 1982, "We have been delighted to receive letters from past Presidents of the U.S. Rangers Assn., Bob Oleson and James Altieri, saying how very much they all enjoyed having Capt. Alick Cowieson and his wife at their Milwaukee Convention last August, and how in their view we could not have chosen a better Ambassador of Goodwill to represent The Commando Association. Alick certainly seems to have made a great impression on our Ranger friends, and we are indeed grateful to him for all he did on our behalf, and which has obviously cemented still further the wonderful bonds of friendship which have now existed between the two Associations over many years."
After the war he worked as a civil engineer for Wimpey contractors, Balfour Beatty and John Laing, travelling across the world building airports, roads, and many other infrastructures.
Alick Cowieson was born in Dornach Scotland on the 20th May 1916, and died on the 20th December 1987 aged 71.
