Lieut. Arthur Brunswick, No.2 Commando HQ Troop Intelligence Section, was killed by a mortar bomb explosion at Dragone Hill, Salerno. He is mentioned in the book Operation Avalanche - The Salerno Landings 1943 by Des Hickey and Gus Smith. Gunner Charles Dettmer of 2 Cdo. worked closely with Lt. Brunswick at Salerno and was with him when he died. Dettmer was also injured and lost an arm in the same mortar explosion. The book states that "Lieut. Brunswicks's parents were German and living in the North of England, yet Brunswick had been an Empire man and a brave soldier, far too brave".
