Terrance Kealy (Keeley) No 4 Cdo.
Hello
I am told that Terrance Kealy (often referred to as Rifleman Keeley)was in No 4 Cdo. in WW2. He joined from the KRRC (King's Royal Rifle Corps). Is this true ? I would like to know, as I am a relative.
After the war, he was a Policeman for 29 or so years.
Could anybody tell me whether Terrance is in this photograph. he died age 89 in February 2012 in Thetford.
I would be interested for any information on his involvement in No.4 Cdo.

The commando who is third from the left in the back row is my uncle, Pvt. Lewis John Jones, who was injured on D Day but when healed returned for three more missions and for occupation in Holland. We have his Eisenhower's pre D Day letter to the troops, and my Uncle has signatures of all his commando buddies on the back and front margin of the letter. We also have a larger picture of his No. 4 unit, his will that all had to sign before leaving, the telegram sent to his mother about his injury, and his release paper. We also have his commando beret with badges.

I. 'Charlie' Palmer - No. 31
Charlie informs me that No.23 is Pte. 'Jock' Fraser and No.30 is Pte. Bob Presho of the Royal Artillery.

SGT Mercer is my Great Grandfather and my Father always tells me amazing stories about him. I was curious and decided to come onto this website to try and find some pictures of him as unfortunately we do not have any. I am so happy that I have finally found one and I am so thankful to the person who uploaded this. Please, if anybody knows of any other pictures of him anywhere could they comment back to me to let me know. Charisse.

Possible id of the Commando on the left
Will Durrant believes that the Commando on the left may possibly be Jock Dale. A picture of Jock can be found here:

Tony joined the Commandos in 1943 from the Cameron Highlanders. He fought with No 4 in Walcheren and was involved in the liberation of Brussels. He broke his ankle whilst training for D-Day and could not therefore take part. He was always immensely proud to be a Commando. GM

David Haig -Thomas
Thanks for putting David Haig-Thomas's photo up. I am one of his twin grandsons, Alex Haig-Thomas. If anyone knows anything about his last day, the ambush or indeed any information about him, anecdotes, funny stories, something memorable about him or trivia, I would be incredibly keen to hear from you.
Best wishes,

Peter,
I am David Haig-Thomas's grandson. I have not heard much about my grandfather's last day, the ambush etc. Do you know any more about it, perhaps though your dad, perhaps other sources?

Please advise if you would like to swap information. Regards...Jeff Steel

Identification
The guy behind Bill is my dad, Sammy Ryder. I have this picture an Dad always told me that the third guy, lying down, had been sent out to bring Bill and Dad (his spotter) back to the unit.
Dad dropped with David Haig Thomas who was the liaison officer with the 1st Canadian. David Haig Thomas was killed in an ambush shortly after the drop. Dad rejoined 4 commando approx. 3 days later. I'd appreciate any more information about his service.

William (Billy) Blundell is No 43
My brother and I went up to Benbecula last year to visit the place our Dad called "the most God forsaken hole in the world." We arrived when the sun was going down and it felt like we'd gone back in time, it is a really magical place although I'd imagine when they were training it must have been pretty harsh.
On the way up we stopped off for a night in the Speen Bridge Hotel and discovered this photo on the wall of the dining room.
I took some pictures and stitched them together in Photoshop, it now sits proudly on mine, my brother's and sister's walls. We are all certain that our Dad, William (Billy) Blundell, is number 43.
Although there are no names it fits with all the info that my Dad told us and is corroborated with the info I've found on this site.
