4 Troop. 3 Commando.
No 51 is Eric Albert(Lofty)Hill. Joined from Metropolitan Police. Served North Africa, Sicily, Italy and North West Europe. Not on D-Day. In Weymouth Hospital with German Measles! Wore Gordon Highlander badge although signed on as Royal Fusilier at Tower of London. Was instructor at Achnacarry for a while, training Dutch commandos. Ended War as Corporal.
Died with my mother on 9th April 1970 when the 'London Valour' on which he was the Radio Officer sank in a gale off Genoa, Italy.

My Grandfather Alastair Cameron is back row centre, brown jacket and not looking at the camera! He always wore the kilt to reunions and I believe was well known in Spean Bridge as he lived locally until his death.

Charlie Palmer thinks this might have been taken about a fortnight after D-Day. He thinks F-Troop were relieved by the Paras 5 days after D-Day and were staying in Breville.

Lewes War Memorial
Joe's name appears on the north side of the war memorial in Lewes.
Charlie Palmer was with him when he died near Sword Beach and his wife Patricia was with Joe's wife when she got the news. I have made a brief film about this HERE.

Wolves of the Aegean
"Busty" Read (reed) was my Father. So nice to see a pic of him on this forum. He was a Memebr of the Raiding Forces and also of the Greek Sacred Band. So difficult to find info regarding their movements back then because most of the time they were working semi-autonomously. Any readers that may be able to help with identifying the actual unit he was attached to would be gratefully recieved. I will add some pics that my Father took, a little later.

No.46 identified as Philip J. Creswick
Nesta Rees identifies her Uncle - Philip J Creswick aka Cressy. Nesta adds "He was wounded on the 8th June 1944 and he was left in a farm by some of his brother troopers. They later "found" a Jeep and returned to the farm. They then returned him to the beach. He died of a heart attack 29th January, 1978. He was a smashing Uncle and I miss him still"
