Thanks Neil
Thanks for your comments Neil. We have quite a few other photos of John Stewart in the No.2 Commando gallery. He was in the same troop as my father.

John Stewart
John Stewart (24) was my dad's cousin (his dad's sister's son). Dad often talked about him and how he got killed in Italy. He used to tell me that John's dad was Canadian. I am waiting for the 1921 census to come out to find out if that was so. Great site and a really fitting tribute to those who served to preserve our freedom.

The man on the right is my father, H W Pratt (EX3417)
I have a copy of this photograph. I don't know who took it, but my dad, who was in F Troop, 45 Commando, told me that it was taken just after he had returned from a patrol, which was why he was wearing plimsolls so he could make less noise!

My father left two notebooks with a record of his time in 48 commando y troup. In the notes he mentions Bertie Jones. I wonder if Herbert was known as Bertie. My Fathers name was James Alexander Smith.
My fathers notes were in pencil but I have now typed them up word for word and can Email a copy to any one who is interested

Berald E Woodcock
I am searching for info on Maj. Berald E. Woodcock pictured here in this photo. I briefly wrote about this British Commando in my book, Patriots from the Barrio the true story of Company E 141st Infantry. Woodcock was brought over to the United States to train US Army personnel in Ranger Training at Camp Edwards, MA in the fall of 1942.

Hi Paul
I imagine the info about your Father being a POW came from the commando (now deceased) who provided the image. I have checked the POW Lists National Archives files and can find no trace of your Father on there. If you have a good photo of your Father you would like added please post it on our Forum or contact us via the Contact Page https://www.commandoveterans.org/contact
