Lieutenant Thomas Peyton, No.2 Commando kia 28/3/1942 St Nazaire
Lieutenant Thomas Peyton, 6 troop, was reported missing 28 March 1942 after Operation Chariot at St Nazaire, later confirmed killed in action. He has no known grave. Son of Ivor Eliot Peyton and Dorothy Helen Peyton, of Englemere Wood, Berkshire.
Thomas Grenville Pitt Peyton was educated at Eton College between 1934 and 1939. In 1940 he volunteered for No.5 Independent Company and later joined No.2 Commando. In 1942 he was Section Officer of the 6 Troop commando contingent on motor launch ML192 tasked to assault the old entrance at St. Nazaire, France, however on the approach their boat was hit by a large shell causing an explosion. All but 5 of the Commandos including Tom, aged just 20, were lost.
