Doug adds “For over 50 years I knew virtually nothing about what happened to my Father during the war. He was warm, confident and outgoing, and although he remained busy and active throughout his life,he &quot;suffered badly with his nerves&quot; and was prone to severe headaches. The first and only time he spoke to me about the war was shortly before he died in 1989. He briefly related to me some of the events that had befallen him in particular those that had shaken and unsettled him most. It was not until I retired some 13 years later that I resolved to find out more, the upshot being a 30 page war diary, the contents of which were drawn largely from material already in the public domain and other information sent to me by some of his closest wartime colleagues such as Joe Schofield and Bob Bennett, along with Joe's own wartime letters and photos found in a long lost scrapbook, along with detail in his Service Record.”<br />
