The Cap Badge this Trooper wears is the South Wales Borderers, the man behind is possible a Royal Engineers (RE) but MAY be Royal Army Service Corps (RASC), their Cap Badges being similar in shape/layout.

This Commando served in one of the Rifle Regiments as his cap badge carries Regimental Battle Honours. Rifle Regiments did not have the Colours carried by Infantry Regiments but on the Officers Cross Belt and every soldiers Cap Badge Badge. He also went on to serve in the Korean War as evidenced by the two right hand medals in the picture.

Sergeant White was Mentioned in Despatches (MiD) as he wears a bronze Oak Leaf on one of his Medals. This means he has been personally named in a Despatch or Report sent back after a Battle or other action. It denotes he has acted gallantly and with merit.

The Commando nearest camera is Australian. His distinctive Cap Badge shows a Silver F & S Commando Fighting Knife and. Gold coloured Boomerang on which is their Motto ‘Strikes Swiftly’. At one time very close links were maintained between this Unit and the Royal Marines. Back in the day 2 Young Officers came down to CTCRM from them to attend the UK Commando Course and I was given the task of taking them for the one week Acquaint.
