King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) and No. 9, Commando
who died age 23 on 03 February 1944
Remembered with Honour at Cassino Memorial.
He is also wearing short puttees and not the more usual webbing anklets these were still in use in the Royal Marines into quite late on when the US Style High Boot was first issued.

The picture clearly shows him with a Lance Corporal stripe. This is likely to have been a temporary rank. CWGC entry shows War Substantive rank of Private.
