Lieutenant John David Thornton, 40 RM Commando kia Afghanistan 2008.
Lieutenant Thornton and Marine Marsh were killed in southern Afghanistan, just after 1653 hours local time, whilst they were conducting a patrol in the vicinity of Kajaki, Helmand province. The vehicle they were travelling in was caught in an explosion [Photo:MOD]
