Pat Coffey
Hello Jim
My father was Ronald Victor Giles, or 'Arvey' to his group.
He was in 'C' Commando too, and is fourth from left in this photo.
When I was young I remember him telling tales of the commandos and his mate 'Paddy Coffee' from Liverpool.
I now know, of course, it was your dad Patrick Coffey.

Jimmy was my fathers best mate in S Troop 46 RMC and fought alonside him at Rots/Le Hamel.
Dad was Sgt Harry Hewitt and throughout his life never forgot Jimmy.
He always said that had Jimmy not been the first to get to the hole in the wall then it would have been him that took the machine gun fire.
Jimmy saved my fathers life at the cost of his own.
Dad passed away in 2003 and I dearly hope they are reunited together forever.
Jimmy, thank you for saving my dad's life.
You were such a brave young man and we will never forget you. RIP xx
If any family of Jimmy want to contact me please feel email [email protected]

The date of the photograph of number commando is wrong ,it was taken in April 1943 and not November 1943 I know this to be fact as No 46 is my grandfather ie seargeant john rigby and he was killed on 25th may 1943! however that is not to say that the film may not have been developed until November 1943.
Best regards
Mark

I think this was taken before departure to Asia, but whether to Burma or Malaya, I don't know. I don't know any of the others in the photo.
