Signalman Lawrence Joseph Codd
Signalman Larry Codd, No.11 Commando, was captured at Tobruk, by the Italian Army, in 1941 whilst volunteering to drive a water truck in search of water for his beleaguered colleagues.
Managing eventually, to escape captivity, through the desert, to the British lines.
He later served with No.2 Commando and was, again, taken prisoner on the island of Vis (Yugoslavia) on Tuesday 6th June 1944.
He was captured, after volunteering, to go on a mission to rescue Lieutenant Colonel Jack Churchill and was subsequently interned in Stalag V11A & Stalag X111A, in Germany.
He was liberated on Saturday 28th April 1945, and repatriated.
