Laver was one of the men captured and shot as a spy by the Gestapo under Hitler’s orders. This picture was taken at the dedication of a memorial stone to him in Birkenhead, his home town. I think the right hand man holding the SBS Colour holds the Royal Fleet Reserve Medal and if I am right it means he is RMR. Members of the RMR could train as Swimmer Canoeists but this required massive dedication and severe training.
