My dad joined the Commandos from Beds & Herts on 23 July 1944 so this photo was taken after this date. John Poole (known as Jack) is 8th from left on the back row. 6th from left front row could be Alfred Philips. John Morgan is immediately behind John (Jack) Poole.

Two updates from the numbers on the numbered version made, however the man identified as Alfred Phillips (who was a Corporal) is in fact an officer, so the photo has not been updated with his name without further id.

On the CVA Facebook page, Roger Phillips wrote, ' like my father Alfred Phillips 6th from left on front row'. Sorry if this is not accurate.

Thank you Margaret but Alfred Phillips was an NCO, and that man in the front row is an officer. He is now identified as Captain Alan Milne.

Back row no 7 bears a strong resemblance to my dad, John 'Timber' Woods, seconded from the Coldstream Guards.
