L/Sgt Bert Garrett
14604368 L/Sgt Albert 'Bert' Garrett CBTC Instructor from 9th August 1943 - 24th Feb.1945. Identified in a group photo by his daughter Maggie Waller who adds "I have two brothers and two sisters and we grew up with a copy of ‘Castle Commando’ on the bookshelf and Dad’s commando knife proudly on display. I recall him going to Commando Association dinners and his tie and blazer badge. Sadly, he died in April 1998 aged 82 having lived an amazing life married to my wonderful Mum Dorothy (also deceased – 1999) who visited Spean Bridge with my eldest sister Anne Marie ( then about 1 - now 70). She - so the family story goes – sat on Colonel Vaughan’s knee and was fussed over and promptly wet herself! Dad raised an amazing family – we are blessed with the values and love my Mum and he bestowed upon us and I am sure the Commando years influenced those values and strengths he passed on to all of us. They had five children, 11 grand children and now there are 9 great grand children. Dad was a policeman in the Metropolitan Police and had a wonderful full life despite being registered blind from his early 50s from a genetic condition. He was a man of whom we are still immensely proud"
