Garry adds "The following is taken directly from his service/casualty records:

20.8.1940. Enlisted aged 18yrs into the 17th (HD) Bn Welch Regt. Defensible Barracks, Pembroke Dock.
20.2.1941. Attached to airfield security duties at RAF Duxford in Cambridgeshire.
12.5.1942. Posted to Commando Depot (3 Cdo)
22.3.1943. Disembarked at Gibraltar and was then with 'H' Force North Africa and engaged in the campaign for Sicily

6.6.1944. D Day, engaged in the Sword Beach landings as part of 1 Special Service Bde, where, he was wounded in action
by shrapnel to the head, he was evacuated to St Andrews Hospital, Billericay, Essex.
18.8.1944. Attended a Paratroop Course and qualified.
9.9.1944. Taken back on strength of 3 Commando and continued to serve until the end of the war.

Harold married Ada Guffogg on the 30th June 1945. Awarded the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defence Medal & War Medal.
