Garry adds &quot;The following is taken directly from his service/casualty records:<br />
 <br />
20.8.1940.  Enlisted aged 18yrs into the 17th (HD) Bn Welch Regt. Defensible Barracks, Pembroke Dock.<br />
20.2.1941.  Attached to  airfield security duties at RAF Duxford in Cambridgeshire.<br />
12.5.1942.  Posted to Commando Depot (3 Cdo) <br />
22.3.1943.  Disembarked at Gibraltar and was then with 'H' Force North Africa and engaged in the campaign for Sicily<br />
(This is where I believe his photo was taken)<br />
6.6.1944. D Day, engaged in the Sword Beach landings as part of 1 Special Service Bde, where, he was wounded in action<br />
by shrapnel to the head, he was evacuated to St Andrews Hospital, Billericay, Essex.<br />
18.8.1944. Attended a Paratroop Course and qualified.<br />
9.9.1944.  Taken back on strength of 3 Commando and continued to serve until the end of  the war.  <br />
<br />
Harold married Ada Guffogg on the 30th June 1945. Awarded the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, France &amp; Germany Star, Defence Medal &amp; War Medal.<br />

Harold, who was from the Bolton area, passed away on the 27th January 2004 aged 82]]></description>
