The late Ron Parrott, formerly Hereford United historian, recalled "Young Jock signed for United from Dartford in 1949/50 and spent three seasons at Edgar Street. During the first season he was in contention for the keeper’s jersey with Percy Lovett. Both were exceptional custodians and reliable performers and there was little to choose between them. Jock made exactly 100 appearances for the club".

Jock Letham is pictured in action for Hereford United in an FA cup tie with Newport County at Edgar Street in December 1950. A gate of 15,526 crammed into Edgar Street to see county win 3-0 with Letham handicapped by an early injury.
