Joined the Cheshire Constabulary on 2 May 1938, collar number 96, and was posted to Altrincham. On 27 July 1942 he enlisted into the Armed Forces (s/n 14241681) after volunteering for the Commandos. Posted to the 2nd Police intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry, and then attached to No.4 Commando. Served in 1 Troop and 'A' Troop. Active service included Normandy and Walcheren. Final military rank attained Lance Sergeant. Member of the Commando Association from Wybunbury, Cheshire.<br />
<b>Post war police service timeline</b><br />
08.10.1945 re-joined the Police Force.<br />
28.06.1953 promoted Police Sergeant.<br />
---.---. 1960 awarded the Police Long Service And Good Conduct Medal.<br />
Commended on two occasions during his service for good police work. For the last three years of his service he was involved in training.<br />
26.05.1968 retired from the force.<br />
