Gunner Robert Milne took part in Operation Chariot, St Nazaire and was taken prisoner of war. His son Ken adds "Unfortunately, my Dad was shot in the back on the St. Nazaire raid and taken prisoner. Although he was treated for his wounds, he was never in the best of health and died in 1969, aged 56."
Mentioned in Despatches Recommendation
"Gnr Milne proved himself to be a courageous and determined soldier. His disregard to personal danger in the attack and efforts to destroy enemy gun positions mounted on the roof of the Pumping Station were outstanding. Later in the street fighting, although wounded, he continued setting a fine example until, when ammunition was exhausted, and very weak through loss of blood, he was taken prisoner. "
