<br />
Pte Mather was taken POW May 1941 Crete. He was imprisoned at Camp 4C,Stalag Wistritz bei Teplitz. He died in the UK shortly after release due to ill treatment whilst a prisoner. His brother Kenneth also died on service.<br />
His other brothers also served as follows :<br />

Ernest Mather served as Captain, RHA in Western Desert and Normandy;<br />
Victor Mather served in submarines in the Pacific;<br />
Barry Mather served in Korean War 1950-52.<br />
