My father John Albert 'Jack' Gambon was born on the 20th August 1923 and lived in Norris Green, Liverpool. He enlisted aged 18 at RM Lympstone 22nd January 1942 and served with the Royal Marines and 43RM Commando. Released in Class A 30th May 1946. He was the 6th of 10 children, his father Frank, who served with the Kings Liverpool Regiment from 1911-19, fought at amongst others, Mons and Festubert. As a child we would go on holiday to Devon with Uncles, Aunties and Cousins in a convoy, and on passing Lympstone, each and every person in our convoy would salute. Always a joy and a great source of pride. Unfortunately I was only 25 when Dad died on the 6th January 1983 so I didn’t get the benefit of his stories as much as some of my older cousins."
